About these predictions

Times are estimated with a fixed projection exponent (k=1.035). The selected open-water percentage is a user-controlled slowdown scenario, not a prediction of conditions or an individual swimmer.

About Swim Pace Converter

Convert your swimming pace between meters and yards, and predict finish times for pool and triathlon distances. Enter a known time to get predictions for 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and generic sprint, Olympic, 1.9 km, and 3.8 km triathlon scenarios. The open-water adjustment is a user-selected slowdown scenario; it does not infer sighting cost, currents, weather, course accuracy, or individual performance.

Convert swim pace first, then interpret the prediction

The calculator separates exact meter-yard pace conversion from modeled predictions across longer pool and triathlon distances. That distinction matters: unit conversion is physics, while a future swim time depends on endurance, technique, turns, navigation, and conditions.

Meters and yards are different distances

One hundred yards is 91.44 meters, so the same swimmer should have a faster time per 100 yards than per 100 meters. The converter preserves the physical speed instead of copying the same clock time under a different label.

To convert a 100-meter pace to 100-yard pace, multiply the time by 0.9144. To convert a 100-yard pace to 100-meter pace, divide the time by 0.9144. For example, 1:45 per 100m is about 1:36 per 100yd at the same speed after rounding.

Enter a known distance and total time in the pool system you actually swam. The result normalizes that performance before displaying both per-100 formats.

Longer times use an explicit fatigue model

Predicted times use a Riegel-style power relationship with a fixed swimming exponent of 1.035. It intentionally slows the pace as distance grows, but it cannot know your endurance profile or technique durability.

Treat nearby-distance estimates as comparisons. Predictions from a short pool effort to 1.9 km or 3.8 km require much stronger assumptions than a prediction between similar distances.

Choose open-water adjustments deliberately

The open-water percentage is a user-selected scenario, not a weather forecast. Sighting, drafting, currents, waves, course accuracy, wetsuit use, and start congestion can help or hurt independently.

  • Compare pool pace with recent continuous and open-water efforts.
  • Use CSS for training pace when you have a valid 400 m and 200 m test pair.
  • Use the interval planner after choosing a pace you can repeat with controlled rest.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert 100-meter pace to 100-yard pace?

Multiply the 100-meter time by 0.9144 to preserve the same speed. For the reverse conversion, divide the 100-yard time by 0.9144. The calculator performs the conversion before formatting the result.

Are the longer swim times exact predictions?

No. They are estimates from a fixed fatigue exponent. Endurance, technique, turns, pacing, and conditions can move the real result substantially.

Does the open-water setting measure conditions?

No. You choose a percentage for scenario planning. It is not derived from current, wind, temperature, navigation, or wetsuit data.
