About Triathlon Predictor

Comprehensive triathlon race time predictor for all popular distances. Input your swim pace, bike speed, run pace, and transition times (T1 & T2) to calculate your overall finish time. Supports Sprint (750m/20km/5km), Olympic (1.5km/40km/10km), IRONMAN 70.3 (1.9km/90km/21.1km), and Full IRONMAN (3.86km/180km/42.2km) distances.

Build a triathlon finish-time scenario you can audit

The predictor adds swim time, T1, bike time, T2, and run time for Sprint, Olympic, IRONMAN 70.3, or full-distance courses. Every input stays visible, so the result is a planning scenario rather than a hidden performance forecast.

Enter sustainable race-day inputs

Use swim pace, bike speed, and run pace that reflect the target distance and likely conditions. A pool pace, short time-trial bike speed, or open 10K pace will usually be too optimistic when copied unchanged into a long-course race.

Metric and imperial modes represent the same physical scenario. Switching units should help you enter familiar values, not change the predicted finish.

Understand the arithmetic

Swim time is distance multiplied by pace per 100 meters; bike time is distance divided by speed; run time is distance multiplied by pace. The calculator then adds the two editable transitions.

It does not model hills, wind, heat, currents, aid-station stops, mechanical problems, fatigue interaction between legs, or course-specific distance variation. Account for those by entering conservative paces or comparing multiple scenarios.

Compare a range, not one magic finish

Create a realistic case from recent race-specific training, then test a conservative and an optimistic version. Note which leg changes the total most and whether the transition assumptions match your actual setup.

  • Use the time-budget tool to compare a scenario with a fixed finish goal.
  • Use the checklist to connect transition assumptions to actual equipment choices.
  • Revisit the plan after a race-specific brick, open-water session, or course recon.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calculator include T1 and T2?

Yes. Both transition times are explicit inputs and are included as separate rows in the total.

Why might my real finish be slower?

The arithmetic assumes the entered paces and speed hold for each complete leg. Terrain, weather, current, fueling, fatigue, stops, and congestion can all make the real course slower.

What distances are used for IRONMAN 70.3?

The preset calculates 1.93 km swimming, 90 km cycling, and 21.1 km running. That is approximately 1.2, 55.92, and 13.11 miles; imperial mode displays the swim as 2,111 yards so it matches the per-100-yard pace input.
